Transmission Line Project

The Chimney Canyon Solar and Transmission Line Project (Project) will support a more reliable grid for Navajo County and the greater Arizona system. The Project will carry electricity from the proposed solar array to the existing Cholla Substation and/or the proposed APS Sitgreaves Switchyard. This Project filed a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility from the Arizona Corporation Commission in October 2025 and is seeking public feedback to support the Project's application.

The Arizona Power Plant & Transmission Line Siting Committee Public Hearing occurred the week of December 15. See materials associated with this hearing in the "Project Materials" section of this webpage.


Transmission Line Project Characteristics

Up to two routes
to be developed
Routes are anticipated to be up to
10 miles in length with a right-of-way of at least 150 feet
Pole structures are anticipated to be monopole design, up to 200-ft in height, and spaced approximately 800 - 1,000-feet apart
Multiple potential transmission routes
are under analysis

Project Timeline

  • Certificate of Environmental Compatibility application filed in October 2025.
  • Arizona Transmission Line Siting Committee Public Hearing completed December 15 – 17, 2025.
  • Construction anticipated to begin as early as Q1 2027.

A Public Hearing was held before the Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee in mid-December 2025.
