Transmission Line Project

The Chimney Canyon Solar and Transmission Line Project (Project) will support a more reliable grid for Navajo County and the greater Arizona system. The Project will carry electricity from the proposed solar array to the existing Cholla Substation and/or the proposed APS Sitgreaves Switchyard. This Project will require a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility from the Arizona Corporation Commission to be filed October 2025 and is seeking public feedback to support the Project's application.

Transmission Line Project Characteristics

Up to two routes
to be developed
Routes are anticipated to be up to
10 miles in length with a right-of-way of at least 150 feet
Pole structures are anticipated to be monopole design, up to 200-ft in height, and spaced approximately 800 - 1,000-feet apart
Multiple potential transmission routes
are under analysis

Project Timeline

  • File Certificate of Environmental Compatibility application in October 2025.
  • Arizona Transmission Line Siting Committee Public Hearing scheduled for December 15 – 19, 2025.
  • Construction anticipated to begin as early as Q1 2027.

Virtual Open Houses

Clearway hosted two Virtual Open House events in May and August, 2025 to share information about the Chimney Canyon Transmission Project. Recordings and presentation materials are available below.
